Book Elves

If a book falls off a bookshelf in a bookstore in the middle of the night, does it make a sound?

I find books on the floor all the time that have taken a nosedive onto the floor. What makes them do that? It's not like it's windy in the store. And I do believe that the longer an open book is upside down on the floor, the worse the crease. They should be picked up immediately! Remember the elves in the story of the Elves and the Shoemaker? Well, I want to hire a couple of book elves to look after the store at night. They would have direct access to two microwaves, a refrigerator, and a play area.

The above photo was the only decent picture I could find of an elf. You wouldn't believe what comes up when you google the word "elf."

I have now officially priced ALL of my consignment. The warehouse is clear for the first time since April 2006! I sold about 300 resale books this week! Just goes to show you that if the books are out there on the shelves, the customers will buy them!

Emily: We can't just throw him out in the snow.
Walter: Why not? He loves the snow. He's told me 15 times.

Buddy: We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.

Another Saturday

I made up a new word the other day - "lemonier." e.g. Lemon drops are lemonier than Lemonheads.

My girls' new favorite word is "random."

I only have 10 more tubs of consignment to price and I am CAUGHT UP for the first time since last April. It is a race to see if I can get it done before someone else comes in with a truckload.

Still no internet orders, but a friend from Dallas has some clients looking for Sequential Spelling, so we added those to the shopping cart. Maybe an order next week!

I think I am just about Monked out. Hey, another new word! We watched four more episodes last night, and I'm finding myself laughing less. We borrowed Season Two from K16's friend, T.

Well, the consensus from Teaching Mom and the Well Trained Mind is that K16 can do the Apologia Physical Science without doing the experiments since she doesn't need the lab credit anyway. We will still need to read over how the experiments are supposed to turn out.

The word random is used to express lack of purpose, cause, order, or predictability in non-scientific parlance. A random process is a repeating process whose outcomes follow no describable deterministic pattern, but follow a probability distribution.

Monk

I cannot sign on to blogger using my google account for some reason. I don't know what I'm going to do when they take the "old blogger" option away -- probably have to start a new blog.

Still no online orders. May I please bribe someone to order something to make me feel better?

The girls are on Spring Break this week. You know what that means -- staying up late every night watching Monk reruns. Unfortunately, our video store doesn't carry season two. It's strange to see someone on TV who has the same type of illness that I do. Sometimes I wonder if that's what I project to the world. (don't tell me if I do) I thought I hid it pretty well.

There is an organization called Exhale that is offering sympathy e-cards to woman who have abortions. Shouldn't the sympathy go to the fetus, not the woman?

Pet peeve for the day: People in the Sonic drive-through who order six bags of food and six drinks. They have stalls for that kind of order.

After a handshake)
Monk: No, no, no - bathroom! Bathroom! I - I - I need a wash...!
Sharona: Just try upstairs! Try upstairs!
Monk: Did you see that? It was a two-hander!

Saturday musings

I work all day on Saturdays. BLAH! Have priced tons of consignment today. Every time I open a tub, it's like Christmas -- seeing what people brought in. Someone even brought in a Mystery of History! Lots of Alpha Omega lifepacs, too!

My shopping cart is up and running, but I haven't made a sale yet. :o( I told the staff that when I get my first order I will take everyone out to eat. Right now we are trying to figure out an easy and fast way to tell the website at the end of the day what items we sold in the store. It is a complicated process that we're hoping we can get down to 10 minutes.

Tonight K16 is going to a youth group function. K13, R, and I are going to the mall for some serious shopping. Didn't go to Olive Garden last night because I wasn't hungry. Maybe tonight?

Been thinking about next year already. Here is what I have for K16 SO FAR!
She will be a junior.

Math U See Consumer Math
Easy Grammar for grammar review
Apologia Physical Science (can we do this without the experiments?)
Word Smart
Essay writing class (she also has to read literature for this class)
Driver's Ed
One country map per week

What am I missing? We do history read alouds and timeline work. She works out at the community college for P.E. She's already taken two years of foreign language.

No Title Today

Wednesday night I got hit in the eye with a raquetball. Cannot believe that my glasses didn't break! The eye is still sore and draining a bit.

Two days ago our shopping cart went online! No orders as of yet, but that's okay because we are still getting some of the kinks worked out. We started with 2300 items and will add new items weekly.

Tonight the girls are going to a movie night to see Facing the Giants, giving R and I some time to ourselves. Maybe I can talk him into taking me to Olive Garden for some pasta and salad!
